More than 100 Years of
Energy Supplies
In Upper Austria, public
energy supplies began in 1892, when Stern & Hafferl set up
a steam company at St. Wolfgang.
A further milestone
regarding energy supplies came in 1918 when Oberösterreichische
Wasserkraft GmbH was founded. During World War II, major
changes were made in connection with the company's staff. The
supply of energy was expanded.
With the second
nationalization law of 1947, energy supplies in Austria were
finally put on a completely new basis - the name
"Oberösterreichische Kraftwerke AG" (in brief: OKA) was used
for the first time.
The following decades
were dedicated to expanding capacities, enlarging the supply
area and modernizing operations.
Since 1 January 1999 the
former OKA has been an active player on the Austrian energy
market under the name of Energie AG Oberösterreich. The
majority stake in Energie AG Oberösterreich is held by the
Federal Province of Upper Austria (51 per cent).
